Western Brown Line Area Improvements
Coming Fall of 2025. Construction is underway for key parts of the Lincoln Square Master Plan and will finish by Fall of 2025. This is the result of a multi-year community process and historic local investments. At the end, we’ll enjoy an improved plaza and parking lot, better suited for our many community events and festivals, a new walking path with lighting, a protected bike lane, and a more enjoyable walking and shopping experience.
What To Expect
In The next Few Weeks
Fencing is up as construction crews are rebuilding curbs on Western Ave. Businesses remain open and most sidewalks remain available for use.
October: New pavers installed in the Farmers Market parking lot ahead of its reopening. Colored and textured pavers installed beneath the El tracks. Crews finish adding new curbs and sidewalks on Western Ave and begin work on a pedestrian refuge island at Western & Leland. This refuge island will only allow vehicles to Turn Right from Leland onto Western, to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. While left-hand turns onto Western will be barred, vehicles will remain able to turn from Western onto Leland going eastbound.
November: Crews complete refuge island and repave Western Ave between Eastwood and Lawrence. Having completed the parking lot, crews focus on building the plaza.
